CONGRATULATING Vincent Lombardi Lodge Number 2270,
Order Sons of Italy in America, Rochester, New York, upon
the occasion of celebrating the 40th Anniversary of its Charter
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the quality and character of life in the communities across New York State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organizations and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is also the custom of this Legislative Body, in keeping with its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those organizations which foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of cultural diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the Vincent Lombardi Lodge No. 2270, Order of Sons of Italy in America, Rochester, New York, upon the occasion of celebrating the 40th Anniversary of its Charter; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated on Saturday, June 23, 2012; and
WHEREAS, The Order Sons of Italy in America was established in New York City on June 22, 1905, by Vincenzo Sellara, M.D. and a small group of other professionals; for more than nine decades the Order Sons of Italy and its many local Lodges have been of service to the Italian-American community throughout New York State and the Nation; and
WHEREAS, The Order Sons of Italy in America encourages the maintenance of Italian culture and language, as well as the assimilation into American social and political life; it has sponsored a wide variety of programs in furtherance of its mission, as well as countless Italian heritage events; and
WHEREAS, The Sons of Italy Vincent Lombardi Lodge No. 2270 was chartered on June 23, 1972, as a fraternal organization of Italian American men and women in Rochester, New York, the lodge was formed as a local branch of the Order of the Sons of Italy in America (OSIA) which is the oldest and largest fraternal organization of the Italian Americans in the North American continent, and
WHEREAS, The Sons of Italy Vincent Lombardi Lodge No. 2270 was built on the original Sons of Italy principles of liberty, equality and fraternity; it affectionately offers a hand to all and keeps alive the traditions of its ancestors; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of its President Joseph A. Rubé, Jr., M.D., the mission of Sons of Italy Vincent Lombardi Lodge No. 2270 is to seek to unite Italian Americans in preserving and disseminating the cultural history of Italy; it seeks to promote and advance positive images of Italian Americans in our society through philanthropic, cultural, educational, social, civic and community activities; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an organization of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention, it should be recognize and applauded by all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, bit it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate the Vincent Lombardi Lodge No. 2270, Order of Sons of Italy in American, Rochester, New York, upon the occasion of celebrating the 40th Anniversary of its Charter; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Joseph A. Rubé, Jr., M.D., President, Vincent Lombardi Lodge No. 2270, Order of Sons of Italy in America, Rochester, New York.
