SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS


SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS

ELIGIBILITY: High school senior graduating from a Monroe County public, private, parochial or certified home school, or related to a lodge member if living in another county. Student must be of Italian descent (at least one grandparent must be of Italian heritage). Student must commence study at an accredited educational institution to continue learning in the fall following their high school graduation, including community/junior colleges, colleges, universities, and career, technical or vocational/trade schools. Preference is given to students associated with members of the lodge, but anyone who meets the above requirements is eligible and encouraged to apply.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Official Application Form: Complete and submit the application form or a photocopy of the application.
  2. Official Transcripts: A copy of the applicant’s transcripts must be sent to the chair of the scholarship committee by the applicant’s high school counselor.
  3. Resume: Submit a current resume outlining extracurricular activities such as volunteer service, work experience, community service, sports honor received, etc.
  4. Letters of Recommendation: Submit two letters of recommendation. One letter should be from someone associated with your school i.e. counselor, teacher, coach, etc.; and the other must be from someone outside of school i.e. employer, mentor, clergy, etc. Letters of recommendation from family members are not acceptable.
  5. Essay: Submit an essay following the guidelines found on page 3 of this application form.
  6. A photo of the applicant would be helpful.

If so requested, applicant must be available to participate in an interview before the scholarship committee. The time and place of the interview will be announced once applications are reviewed.


The scholarship winner(s) will be presented his/her scholarship award in August. A check for the scholarship will be given to the students at the August event, made payable to the educational institution they will attend.  Confirmation is required that the scholarship recipient has been admitted, enrolled as a full‐time student, and has commenced attendance.

The scholarship recipients will be asked to address the group at the above event. Their parents and guests are also encouraged to attend the above meeting.

It is the responsibility of the scholarship applicant to ensure that all requested information is submitted to the Vincent Lombardi Lodge #2270 Scholarship Committee Chairperson by the deadline of March 31st. Applications or materials received after the deadline date will not be considered for the scholarship.

The New York State Commission for Social Justice established La Bella Lingua Achievement  Award for a graduating high school senior who has taken no less than three years of Italian  language in an accredited program. If you quality to submit an application please include with  the application: two copies of the candidate’s answers to application questions, two copies of  an official student’s transcript (containing Italian Language course grades), two copies of a  letter of recommendation, and two copies of the student’s essay by March 31st to the District  VIII CSJ Liaison. 

The award of $500 will be presented to the awardee at the Vincent Lombardi Lodge #2270’s  Award Ceremony on July 11th at 7 pm, Eyer Building Community Center 317 Main St., East  Rochester.

2024 Scholarship Program 

Students graduating high school with a minimum of  

85% are eligible to apply. The application requests  

evidence of scholarship and service. The same  

application may be used for graduate or  

undergraduate scholarships. The applicant must 

be a New York State resident and of Italian  

heritage. Applications are not limited to OSDIA  

membership. 

NYS Grand Lodge Foundation awards grants to students with an Individualized  Educational Plan (I.E.P.). All steps in #2 on the Grant application form must be  completed. 

This year, for the first time, a vocational/trade school grant will be awarded. Students  need to follow the directions to be considered.
